A Home Reborn in Stone

Ancient Surfaces renovated this coastal home one room at a time, using a single family of reclaimed limestone to hold it all together. In the kitchen, a thick antique limestone countertop wraps the island and drops into an integrated farmhouse sink, while a hand carved limestone hood and corbels frame the range above a wall of antique delft tile. Reclaimed limestone flagstones run underfoot from the kitchen through the sitting room, where a carved mantel with a softly draped frieze sits under heavy timber beams. Upstairs, a tall limestone mantel and overmantel anchor a bedroom of leaded glass windows, and the bath is finished in limestone flooring and a limestone tub surround beneath an arched window facing the sea. The result is cohesion by stone: every room different, every room clearly part of the same house.
