A Home Shaped in Stone

Ancient Surfaces approached this home with one idea: let water, stone and light connect the gardens to the rooms within. In the main garden, a broad reclaimed limestone wall fountain anchors the planting beds and frames the terrace, its stepped profile and carved cornice built from blocks that each carry their own patina, with a dark iron spout feeding an aged trough between glazed urns and citrus. On the upper patio, a lighter and more refined fountain is centered on a carved roundel above a compact rectilinear basin, a clean footprint for an entertaining zone. In the shaded courtyard, a third fountain spills from a carved crest and lion mask into a scalloped bowl and faceted basin under climbing vines. Indoors the same hand appears in a reclaimed limestone fireplace surround with a carved frieze, and in a monolithic limestone sink whose chiseled edge meets a honed deck above an iron washstand. Antique in spirit, durable in construction.
